The Anthonian ocverpage. Second release for AY 2007-2008
How I miss writing! Not the thing that refers to just getting a pen and paper and (yeah) “writing” something on it. It’s about doing it for. a publication. It’s been a long long long while since the last time I wrote one–about a year and three months ago. This writing skill brought me to Guimaras Island (prior to the oil spill incident), to school paper seminars in Iloilo and Tagaytay City and to the beautiful and white sand beaches of the ever popular Boracay Island, and this even helped me pay my college tuition fees not to include my free daily internet access and computer encoding. I also miss the stressful but enjoyable all-day editing job at the publishing house. And I long to design again the cover for our school mag (which I was able to do without the help of Adobe Photoshop but with the free edition of ULEAD and the open source GIMP). Unfortunately I don’t have even a single copy of those papers handy with me, not even an email attachment. Luckily though (and for now) I can share with you some of the literary pieces I wrote and was able to publish on my friendster blog. You’ll like it. Hopefully.
Self –Reflection: A Thousand Miles Across One’s Self
Take some moments to reflect on this…
There was a man who was dissatisfied with himself. Discontentment and indecision seemed to be his lot because he was afraid of what might happen if he ventured out by himself. So, he thought that if he’d follow what other people tell him to do and imitate what they do and pretend as them, he would somehow do well. And he did! Continue Reading..
There’s no one you can really trust than yourself. Don’t believe in everything you see or hear or read. Even dictionaries have misspelled words. Fact books have their own flaws. And Wikipedia.org’s contents are not 100% correct. I should have considered these things prior to reading posts in a particular blog. If I were a lawyer and hadn’t read the about page, I might have already sued the owner of this blog.
Lawyer? Sue? What? What blog am I talking about here? GoodTimesManila.com I was browsing for some top blogs at topblogs.com.ph (only for filipino bloggers) under humor category then I came across this Good Times Manila. I thought the blog was about the “fun” of living in Manila, the good times of staying there, some sort of a news blog about the daily happenings in the city. Or so I thought. The blog’s contents are mostly about showbiz and political personalities in the Philippines. The posts are well-written just like the usual news. The approach is very realistic. Once you have read a story, you’ll feel that you aren’t anymore up-to-date. You may begin asking yourself, “Why didn’t I know about it? Why didn’t I hear everyone else talking about this thing?” and that is even if you always watch TV, listen to the radio or read periodicals. One of the posts (Jobert Sucaldito hospitalized after accident with cucumber) was actually sent to the whole office via outlook. Some agents (employees of a call center) laughed about the news. Others wondered why they never saw it on TV. And I got a question mark on my forehead. Only until earlier that I realized what it really was all about.
GTM’s concept is this: don’t trust everything you see on the Internet. This is also similar to TheOnion.com (which I was also fooled through a message sent via email). In other words, the author writes something about a real person and the write-up didn’t necessarily happen but a bogus and funny one. One word to best describe this: goodtiming. For most of his readers and visitors and for me, this is a brilliant idea. For others, this is screwing. For the remaining few, this means a “war.”
The less you know about me, the better for both our peace of mind.
My other blog, skeggin.info, has been down for almost 48 hours for reasons I don’t know . Earlier this morning, I decided to reconfigure “again” my DNS settings for that domain. I pointed it to a different one. The process (called domain name propagation) usually takes 24 to 48 hours to complete and until now, I’m still waiting for it to finish. Luckily though, I was able to export all the contents of that blog, including the author’s posts, tags, categories and the comments made. I can still access the files via FTP so i just download the upload folder. So later, once the propagation has already completed, I’ll just have to reinstall the theme I was using and then reconfigure the sidebar. What a bright idea! And yes, it may sound simple but it is VERY FRUSTRATING.
Let your blog rolling. This past few days I’ve been getting some requests from other bloggers to exchange banners or links with them. And I though that it was a good idea. Indeed, it was and still is. So I decided to find some wordpress plugins that could automate the process of reciprocal link exchange. I was hoping that I could find one. No success though. I had rather to decided the free service provided my mcklinky.com. I’ll settle on this for now but in the future, I’ll be just installing a reciprocal link exchange site of my own.
Anyone who would like to exchange links with me may use the following code:
My other blog, I mean my mom’s, has been down for almost 24 hours and I can’t seem to figure out why. What will happen to my topsite codes and the virtual hamster I posted there? Poor creature. There’s no one to feed him. I have to find out why or it will go to the unending nothingness of a mental blank spot. Forever.
I know, the issue couldn’t be with my host. My other sites are functioning correctly. There could be something wrong with the scripts I installed. And yeah, I tried removing some plugins via FTP but still no use. Maybe I’ll just have to continue figuring this out myself. Lord, help me.
For days, I’ve been wondering on what to do now that I’m done constructing the community website for a school organization I was a member of as a BS Accountancy student. I tried to open some warez/nulled scripts sites for a good community script. As usual I always got Social Engine. It’s however no good to use warez in production… or suffer the consequences. So I continued searching again for some legitimate ones, those which are open source. While searching, I stumbled upon this video about Twitter. I got the embed code from YouTube and now I’m sharing it with you. This is a nice one. I hope you’ll like it.
www.domain.com. Here we go again. Most of us would type a website this way. Some would even begin it with http colon forwardslash forwardslash. That’s the reality. I have nothing against it. But why tire your fingers out when you can just type domain.com? Imagine the amount of calories your are wasting for that when you could use to something more productive. I have just come across this which is pro to no wwww subdomain. I certainly am new to and still don’t get the root cause of this but I like this idea. By the way, there is already a plugin for wordpress called wordpress no-www by Matt Mullenweg. If you need to comment about this plugin, just visit this page or download the plugin directly from here.
I know it’s late but let me blog about this. My mom and I were browsing some Yahoo! featured contents and not unsually, it was again about Michael Jackson’s. People around the world paid tribute to the King of Pop in different ways. And to our surprised, we saw the Cebu Inmates dancing again. Yes, they’re inmates even if some Yahoo! vids commenters don’t belive. Anyway, what do I have to do with them? Now these guys from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) who shot to global fame with their previous videos such as their Jai-Ho Dance Craze wowed again the world with a YouTube video of their “Thriller” dance as tribute to the late MJ. (fame instantly!. huh)
According to the posts at OMG!, “after being told of Jackson’s death Thursday in Los Angeles, the 1,500 inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center hit the exercise yard, practicing for nine hours Friday night and into the hot hours of Saturday morning for the show. They took breaks only to eat or when it rained, said professional choreographer Gwendolyn Lador, hired by the prison to teach the inmates the dance.” Imagine that. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’ll finish first watching the vid.
I’ve been a loyal user of Internet Explorer for a very long time. I started with version 5. That’s when i began knowing what internet was. Then it updated to 6 which was really good. Then IE7 came out which was more secure because of its phishing filter; it also came along with tab features. And lately, came out the stable version of Internet Explorer 8. Stable? It’s the second week of June again. I’m getting old and older each day. I’m turning 22 but that will be three days from now. That’s not what I’m concerned of though. Neither are the birthday spams that I’ll be getting in friendster and through email. Today starts the school year for most Filipino college students. It’s my second year of not needing to prepare for that. What do I do there anyway? Enter classes im not registered in? Why not? Sorry but I’m not that liberated yet. I can talk about pornography and sex and scandals and sex and pornography but no more than those. Continue Reading..
